the present study, AE1 extract containing Juglans regia, Myrtus
communis, Matricaria chamomilla, Urtica
dioica and Rosa damascena showed high antimicrobial activity against P. acnes and anti-inflammatory activity.
 While phenolic substances of Juglans regia such as chlorogenic acid,
kaffeic acid, ferulic acid, catechin, vanillic acid and juglone show
antioxidant activity, particularly herbaceous juglone
(5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) exhibits antimicrobial properties 13-15. The water
extract of M. communis leaves showed
significant antibacterial effect against Escherichia
coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis,
Salmonella typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 16. M. chamomilla composed of
therapeutically active compounds such as sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, coumarins,
and polyacetylenes, bisabolol, apigenin. Bisabolol was found to reduce
inflammation, fever, adjuvant arthritis, yeast-induced fever in rats. Apigenin
exhibited anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan-induced rat paw edema and
delayed–type hypersensitivity in mice 17-20. The ethanolic extract of M. chamomilla has also antibacterial and
antifungal effects 21. Urtica dioica
were a source of kaempferol, myricetin, linoleic acid, oleic acid, iron and
beta-sitosterol. Polysaccharides and
caffeic malic in all parts of U. dioica
showed anti-inflammatory activity in an in
vitro study 22, 23. Rosa damascena
contains flavonoids such as caempferol and quercetin and their glycoside
derivatives, carboxylic acids terpene, myrcene, tannins and vitamin C 24-26. The
hydroalcoholic extract of R. damascena
was effective in reducing inflammatory pain 27.

AE2
was composed of Brassica oleracea L.var
italica and Brassica oleraceae var. botrytis. Recent in vivo studied showed that the presence
of alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, tannins, flavonoids and proteins in Brassica oleracea showed
anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activity 28.  In our study, AE2 significantly suppressed
gene expression of IL-1?, SRD5A1 and TNF?. These results demonstrated us Brassica oleracea L.var italica and Brassica
oleraceae var. botrytis. extract
has strong antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect.

It is our conclusion that active constitutes in our tested extracts has
strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects and also …. Further studies
are needed to characterize which of the active constituents in the extracts has
these effects.
