After signing with Asylum Records, his debut album,
read as “plus”, was released in September 2011. It topped the UK and
Australian charts, reached number five in the US, and has since been certified
seven times platinum in the UK. The album contains the single “The A
Team”, which earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and
Lyrically. In 2012 Sheeran won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo
Artist and British Breakthrough Act. “The A Team” was nominated for
Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where he performed the song with
Elton John. Ed Sheeran is today’s most influential artist. He
has also been the most influential urban artist. Sheeran topped the list, with
the top four spots rounded out by EDM duo Disclosure, rapper Tinie Tempah and
crooner Sam Smith.

The U.K. rapper Wiley said that he has never been
influenced by a white artist to make black music but Ed Sheeran managed to do
that. Being able to influence huge artists with your music is a huge success. DJ
Yasmin Evans stated: “Having just his music in mind and disregarding anything
else that we may have considered for other artists there is so much power in
what he produces & writes that this alone holds so much power.”

Very important and huge influential artists have
wanted to work and collaborate with Ed Sheeran and they have. Elton John
collaborated with Ed twice on two of his songs ‘don’t go breaking my heart’ and
‘the A team’. He has also collaborated with
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on ‘Growing up’, Bloodstream with Rudimental,
Play it Loud with Giggs, Watchtower with Devlin, little things with 1
direction, as well as Beyonce and the tribute to Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift
and everything has changed. This shows how much he has had influence on other
artists music and how much he has influenced the black music industry to
develop by being a huge inspiration.
