Rought of dministration of diclofenac sodium is
orally, rectally, intramuscularly, intravenously and trans-dermally. Diclofenac
is rapidly and efficiently absorbed (100%) whether administered orally as
solution or enteric-coated tablets or rectally as suppositories. In fasting
subjects, the peak plasma concentrations occur 1.5 to 2.0 hours after ingestion
of drug and this is delayed by food to 2.5 to 12 hours. After intramuscular administration,
peak plasma concentrations are reached after 10 to 30 minutes. The drug has a
relatively short elimination half-life in plasma (1.5 hours), which limits the
potential for drug accumulation (Todd and Sorkin,
1988). The metabolism of
diclofenac sodium is highly species dependent.
